Sharing an Idea with Others? Use These 7 Principles to Make It Stick

Updated: Jun 10, 2021

Imagine: you share an idea with colleagues. Will they remember your idea and share it with others?

The answer is yes - if you use these 7 principles (from the book: "Made to Stick").

✂️️ 𝗦 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘

Strip an idea down to its core.

🎢 𝗨 𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗗

Get the attention with surprise. Keep attention by creating knowledge gaps, make people wonder. Fill the gaps later.

🔨 𝗖 𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗘

Make it tangible. Describe the impact in every-day terms. Avoid abstract words like high-performance, delivery, and process.

🔗 𝗖 𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘

Do people believe your idea? Why should people trust you on this subject?

❤️️ 𝗘 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟

Make people feel something.

🪞 𝗦 IMILARITY

Create recognition.

🎭 𝗦 𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦

Stories burn an idea into our mind. Tell a story instead of focusing on dry data.

First letters: S-U-C-C-E-S.

Cheesy acronym. I know.

But the principles do work.
